Interesting (lengthy) read about drop in guitar sales/players.
Mostly references a US "guitar" viewpoint, but I try not to think about it being valid towards bass.

Good point to teach youngsters to play.

Gittar sales took a dip in the 80s when everyone wanted one of these new fangled synthesizer things. Then in the 90s bands like Oasis came along and suddenly the guitar was fashionable again. Cyclical. Moo is right though. with modren day tablet and phone thingies you can do anything musical.

Yeah, just what I want to do...go to a club and watch a bunch of millennials sit around with iPads......NOT! (good post "Me4Bass" I read that article too.)
