Re: First time string change and Fret board cleaning
Thanks for the reassurance. On the Status Site, I think it's in the FAQ'S , that WD 40 is safe for the fretboard only, not the body, and to use it sparingly. There's more detailed directions. Thanks again, and Happy New YearResponded in First time string change and Fret board cleaning

Re: First time string change and Fret board cleaning
No procedure, the necks are so stable you can take all the strings off and it wont move. I don't know about the WD40. I have only ever used a furniture polish on my KB neck and body, which is what Mr Green used on my bass when I collected it.Responded in First time string change and Fret board cleaning

Re: First time string change and Fret board cleaning
I have a Stealth 4 String Fretless. I'm going to be changing the strings and cleaning the fret board (sparingly), with some WD 40 for the first time. I use double ball strings. Is there any procedure,or order for taking them off/ putting them on, that will minimize neck movement, and truss rod adjustments? I know Graphite is very stable, just wondering what to expect. Thanks in advance for any help.Responded in First time string change and Fret board cleaning

Re: Series II - pickup problem?
Hello everyone,I've had my gorgeous #425 Series II for 10 years. After I moved to a new place last year, the bass has been lying in its case during months (you know, when all your stuff is packed until you definitely find a new home). I played it again yesterday and there's obviously a problem with the sound, like there's some distorsion/overdrive on it. It appears and goes worse when I turn the volume button on the bass. Looks like the 31 year old lady needs something to sound again like in its young days
Any tips on this?
Thanks

Re: Wasburn S1000 pre-amp
Check out the status website, in Online Shop / Active Circuits. They have everything still available. I know the Washburns had Status active electronics, from your description it would be similar to an old S1. If you e-mail or phone Status, then Rob or Dawn would be able to advise you as to what you would need, then after £150ish quid and a bit of soldering your bass will be slap-tastic Responded in Wasburn S1000 pre-amp

Re: Wasburn S1000 pre-amp
Hello everyone!I bought a Washburn S1000 a while back but it seems the pre-amp inside is gone so the battery is not connected to anything and it's just a simple volume-tone and blend pots that are there.
My question is - do I need to get a specific Washburn pre-amp or has anyone done a mod with any old kind of preamp?
I just fancy getting a bit of bite back in the old slap y'know?
Vheers for any help.
All the best - J

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I'll look into it and report back.

Re: Neck Relief
Just bought a used KingBass MkII 5-string, which I'm really enjoying. It seems to have one issue, though - the action is quite good, however I’d like to get it a bit lower, but even with the truss rod fully slackened off, there’s still quite a bit of relief in the neck. Is there any other way to get the neck slightly flatter? If I lower the action, it buzzes quite badly above the 12th fret, so I was thinking about getting the frets leveled to compensate. Is that likely to help?
Any advice gratefully received.

Ok, so when you take a battery out there is no sound. Note to self, make sure you always have spares!
I was hoping that battery strength was causing a loss of power to the bass boost/cut but sadly not. The treble will boost to the point of distortion but the bass and mid filter make very little change wherever you turn them.
I have a 2016 s3 if that helps. Am I doing something wrong or are they like that? I’ve only had the bass for a few weeks and vaguely recall all the knobs making vast changes to the sound but you know what it’s like, you find a sound you like and just leave it like that so I haven’t really played with the sounds since until I started worrying about battery life.
Ok, having had this looked at in Colchester it seems that the strings were dead. Although the bass I bought hadn’t been played so the strings weren’t tarnished they still had a massive (negative) affect on the tone controls.
Just in case anyone else is as stoopid as me...

Re: Flat Batteries - Active Circuit
On my Empathy, the batteries last for years, literally. 2-3 years. The killer is when they start to go, distortion creeps in. And it's quite nasty. I remember years ago when it happened, I was convinced it was a physical problem with my combo. I ended up dismantling things, and then suddenly twigged what was causing it.
The moral of the story - replace your batteries every couple of years before they get the chance to crap out on you.

Re: S2 Classic vs Kingbass
Probably not too much help to You but I have a S2 Classic & a Kingbass. However the S2 is a 6 string so a lot more Graphite & Wood going on. But I would say I think Kingbass's have a diffrent unique sound probably due to the size & scale but IMHO sound slightly different to other Statii. Both mine sound like Status basses (if you get what I mean) But the S2 has a more piano like quality & the KB has a more well kingbass quality LOLIn an ideal world it would be great to try both as 4 strings together (or for me try a KB 6 string but I have never even seen one in the flesh)
But hey yeah --- just get both!!! LOL

Re: Flat Batteries - Active Circuit
Thanks, the mid filter seems to do very little in the up or down position and, as you say, nothing in the middle. My comment about distortion was really only to say that there is sooo much tone/gain available on the treble knob with little or nothing available on the other two. Should the bass boost/cut not have the same ‘power’ as the treble which would necessitate fiddling with the amp controls if you want to use the extremes?
Thanks for the support.
