The Parametrix system seems to be generating a bit of interest on that other forum full bass players.... did anyone ask Rob how it works?

It looked to me like the switches were for the coil taps and the small knobs were for bass, treble, EQ1 boost / cut and frequency centre, EQ2 boost / cut and frequency centre.

One question being asked is whether there's one EQ for each pickup or if both EQs work across the whole output. I'm guessing the latter?

I asked Rob and he explained me how the system works.

Essentially it has 3 stages:

1) Pickup switching. Each pick up is built using 2 noiseless (*) Jazz-type pickups. There is a switch for each pickup. Each switch has 3 positions: J-pickup 1, J-pickup 1+2, J-pickup 2.

2) Standard preamp. Balance, volume, treble, bass

3) Semi-parametric 2 band. 4 knobs: 2 for the bass section, 2 for the treble section. The treble and bass section work similarly. One knob set the frequency the other the boost/cut.

FAQ:
Q: Why do I need a 2 band eq in stage 2 if I already have a semi-parametric in stage 3?
A: It is possible to replicate what the 2 band EQ does using the semi-parametric. However, the semi-parametric is there to add a further level of equalization. In practical terms, it is possible for instance, boost the treble slightly and create another independent boost of the treble frequency for everything above for example 3kHz.

Q: Do I need it?
A: In my opinion, it depends what you would like to achieve. If you like to keep the amp flat and manage everything on-board it might be a cool thing to have. If you are happy with the EQ section of your amp and the standard Status electronics, you can probably live without it – especially considering the Status basses sound very well without any EQ (on or off board).

Q: Can I have the pickup switching without the semi parametric EQ? Can I have the semi parametric EQ with standard pickups?
A: My understanding is that the system is modular and it is possible to order them separately.

Q: Does the EQ operate on the two pickups separately?
A: No, it doesn't. It operates on the signal post pickup balance.

I hope the above helps.

------------------------
(*) Noiseless J pickups are built using two coils in series instead of just 1 coil. With two coils, one coil operates on string E and A the other on D and G. The two coils are wired reversed and usually they have reversed magnets. In this way, electromagnetic interference that hits the pickup is cancelled by the coils configuration.

Maybe it should be Parametrix after all since Rob has spelt "dual" wrong and put "duel". He generally seems to be confusing his E and A :D

Unless the two parametric EQ actually fight each other.
