I hope some one can help with some information.
I bought a used status graphite bass S II this weekend.
It has a serial number 1302, can you tell me what year it is produced
and what strings I can use?
I have a kit of strings purchased from you "Hot Wire Double-Ball, Round-Wound 45-105"
Can I use them ?
I assume it's headless then? That gauge should be ok, you might need to tweak the action if you get a bit of fret buzz but you might be lucky and not need to.
I'm not sure on serial numbers. The other guys may help.

Thanks! I got it for £550 so I'm really pleased it still holds its value!
I'm thinking of adding a new bridge and pickups, I think it would look hella sexy with gold on it!
What about the serial number? Is it 455 or 55 with a fraudulent 4?
I don't think Rob ever put serial numbers in the battery compartment, you could email him to ask..
Yup, never ever seen an S/N loaded there. Either on the top string retainer or at the bottom!
I would say right price is about £500-700

Re: Status S II Serial #455, year?
Sorry for the late reply, the SN was on the bridge as 645!I really wanna know what that 455 meant but doesn't seem significant to Rob.

I thought it was unusual as from what I've gathered the number is usually easy to find. How can I locate his email address?
I assume its on the Contact page for the main Status website?

Re: Status S II Serial #455, year?
Not a Series 2, looks like a FFP Matrix around 1990 to 1993 not sure when they stopped making them, worth around £800/1000Al

Re: Status S II Serial #455, year?
Also when you look at the serial number, the "4" seems completely out of symmetry with the "55"Could this be a series 1 bass and serial number 55?
The bridge would suggest so?

Re: Status S II Serial #455, year?
Hey folks, I've had this beauty for 10 years after getting it on my 16th birthday! As soon as I felt the neck I was in love!!
It's had a lot of wear and tear, belt scratches from the ex-owner, pickups are worn smooth and a small chip in the head from a low ceiling practice room but she's still roaring!!
I found the finish really different to other status models and the black bridge seems older.
I've gathered it's birth is around '89-90 which is also mine!
Ideas on the value?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: couple of serial numbers
The serial number on the first one would suggest May 2004. 05 being May and 04 being the year. Second one I can't help with. Third looks like February 1998. 02 being the month and 8 the year.At the top of this page is a link "Catalogues & more". Click on that and you will find all sorts of info about Status basses. Pictures would be great. We are all tarts for them here.

Re: couple of serial numbers
I proudly own the following Status Graphite basses:Status Graphite S1 classic 4 string (active) serno 05043025 carbon neck, headless, medium scale (bendwell),
Status Graphite Shark 4 string (passive, one PU) serno 1058, wooden neck, regular headstock
Status Graphite The Groove Bass 5 string (active, cream) serno 0281728, wooden neck, "regular" headstock
I do not know which year said basses above were build, I also know nothing about the woods used.
Perhaps you could help out here. Not too important but still interesting (for insurrance purposes) is the original price.
I could make pictures and post them hiere if that makes it easier for you to help me.
I also own a Status Graphite 5 string S2 classic, carbon neck, headless but I got all the information I need about this one.

Re: energy wooden neck
ah that's great info many thanks and I agree the battery routing is a little harsh! its a fab bass to play and one ive found endless tones on.any ideas how much she might be worth ? if I do pick up playing again ill more than likely go up the range a little but stick with status for sure.

Re: energy wooden neck
Hi MattI had serial nmbr 2764 which was an Amber Ash body which I purchased new from the Bass Centre in Wapping for £500, I probably still have the invoice for it somewhere with the year but Bassbass is probably about spot on.
Yours looks like an ash body also with a maple neck, A walnut body version was also made.
The routing on the battery compartment always seemed a bit severe on these as the face of the bass was paper thin above it!!
