Re: Hello from US/Japan/Belgium
Hello Status community!

Just singed up, and wanted to say hi.
Proud owner of serial number 229, bought it recently in Japan.

I used to own '93 Series 2 and also used to own the 5 string bass Mark used in the Guaranteed Live video (sold to Morgan).
Wish i kept all of my basses, but you know the usual story, life, family, work, etc...

Anyways, now i am living in Belgium on temporary basis, wish to visit more Level 42 shows if possible, and hope to communicate with other euro members!

BTW, i used to be pretty active in Level 42 digest community back in the early 90s, maybe some of you here remember me from that time??

Re: Want to order a new bass - asking for advice...
Hi Frank

1) I have 19mm string spacing on my KB, I also have little chubby hands, the neck is slightly flattened on the back so fits my hands fine, I have no problems with reaching anything, however with the KB, because of the shorter top cutaway, the bass does hang naturally a little further to your left, so you may have a stretch a little further for the F. I have smaller spacing on my Jaydee and I often swap between them, never a problem
2) Double Ball End (DBE) strings are rarely available in shops, there are plenty of options on line though and with most strings it depends on the tone you want. I have used Status Hotwires, Elites etc etc, all good. At the moment I have single end DR High Beams, which sound amazing. With the string clamping (a grub screw at the neck end) it is still easy to change the strings.
c) The only reason for side LEDs is if you are playing in dark venues, where it is difficult to see the fret markings
d) You can not go wrong with a status, I have owned 3, all brilliant. My KingBass is the best thing I have ever played/owned. Just pick your spec and order, and remember Dawn has excellent taste in facing woods Smile

Re: Want to order a new bass - asking for advice...
I have an S2 4 with 19 spacing and no problems. I also have an S2000 with 17mm spacing and an S3 5 with 16.5 spacing. I don't have any problem moving between them. It really comes down to personal taste.

The point of the 32" scale on the bendwell is that the standard strings can be used but give you a shorter playing scale. The length from string retainer to tuners/bridge is still the same as a 34" scale bass. Strings will not be a problem.

LEDs I have never needed so can't help there.

Don't be afraid to contact Mr. or Mrs. Green mutiple times. They are both very helpful and can sort anything out for you.

Re: Want to order a new bass - asking for advice...
Hi all,
I'm just in the process to configure a new status 4 string king bass I'm planning to order soon. Here are a few questions:
a.) 19mm string spacing (as standard) seems to me a bit wide. Well, I know it's dependent on the size of the hand. However, I have measured my Basses I have at home - the string spacing is rather 15mm.... (I bought those basses 'from shelf' - so no possibility to customize, so I would rather consider this as standard). I think I will choose 16,5mm. Any experience / comments on this? Are there any players out there playing with 4 string 19mm?
b.) I would like to have a headless with 32" scale 'BendWell' option. I would be interested if I will get double ball stings easily (in any shop) for that size of the neck (for a reasonable price). I prefer changing the strings frequently, - so this is an important cost factor to me….
c.) LED at the front would be nice. Is there a good reason to have LEDs on the side (would save some cost)?
d.) Anything else you would advice? Would there anybody - eventually even from Germany - I could contact to have a chat?

Thanks a lot & kind regards
Frank

Welcome onboard. 300 instruments I think more than qualifies you for a bass forum. What Status model have you ordered?

Re: Greetings from Canada
Hi All!

I've been playing bass guitar for 40-odd years now. I've owned upwards of three hundred different instruments over the years, and during the first decade of this millennia I was blessed to be supervisor of design, procurement, customer relations, QC and testing for a large bass custom shop in Europe. So I really got to play 'in the deep end'. Certified bass-o-holic, yep!

Lately I have been refining my personal tastes after a few years bass-playing hiatus, and as of today I have ended up with eleven various bass guitars, four of them Aluminum-necked. A couple of months ago I finally ordered myself a STATUS GRAPHITE. (t'was good enough for John Alec...)

If things play out the way I hope, then I can simplify my life considerably by using the Status for rounds, and keeping two or three of my current basses for "Tapes", "flats", and maybe one for "detuned flats".

Looking forward to to receiving my Status the first week or two of December, if all goes according to plan! Grin

Yup, I was thinking there was something special for a moment before realizing the basses were simply left handed!

Nice instruments for a first come here, congrats!

Welcome welcome!

Lovely basses. Strange seeing them left handed!

You're safe here... We don't judge!

Re: Newbie from the Netherlands
Hi everyone! I've been on board since last June, but I haven't properly introduced myself yet. My name is Jeroen, 34 years old, from the Netherlands. I've been playing bass probably for about 15 years now. I've played in a few bands, from dark Nick Cave-like pop noir and murder ballads (with The Bullfight) to modern, melodic, female fronted metal with heavy pop influences. Currently my only band is left incomplete. Our singer had a 4th child on the way and just didn't have enough time anymore, and our lead guitarist left for Oxford for 3 years after he finished his chemistry PhD and won't be back soon. I'm mostly playing at home now, or jamming with the remaining guitarist and drummer. We've been struggling to find a new singer and haven't given up yet, though we're not putting as much effort into it anymore either... It's still good fun though, thankfully.

I've been drawn to Status ever since I saw a beautiful, bright white S2 Classic with Roman numeral inlays for sale on Leftybass.com. I had heard of the brand, and had seen Buzzards, Kingbasses and S2's before, but I knew nothing about them. But I knew I needed to have that bass, it had so much appeal! I was too late though... Last May, after 11 years, it popped back up! This time I didn't hesitate. I was still intrigued by its clean looks and the beautiful combination of the pure white body and all-black fingerboard with the striking Buzzard-style Roman numerals. It took some time for it to arrive all the way from Israel (!) but it was well worth the wait. It's one of the most comfortable basses I've ever played, it looks even more stunning in person, and it is in excellent condition for its age! It has the old Hyperactive soapbars and a Board 300 preamp. Ever since I started playing it, I knew I had to have a 5-string too...

...which popped up on basschat.co.uk not much later, in September. It's a 2012 S2 Classic bolt-on with a poplar body in black metallic, with a Board 303 preamp, which belonged to lefty008 (Rob) on this forum. It has been my go-to bass ever since!

Re: Newbie from Germany
Hello,

Now i got one. I'm not sure, if it is a Series 1, but I'm think so. No. is 1428 it's got a through-neck and the TB5 Circuit.

Re: New Guy Saying Hi!
Folks, dropping as I'm finally a proud owner of a new Stealth.
i.imgur.com/h4jNf3g.jpg

I'm based in southern CA. I play everything from church bass to rock to reggae. Latest project here https://www.reverbnation.com/kellysk8er (recorded with a Zon. What can I say?).

Man, why did I wait so long to get a Status?

Amp-wise, Reeves Custom 400, Tech 21 dUg or an Ampeg SVT are my go-to choices.

Anyway, joined up to join the fun ask a couple questions. See in the technical area in a few.

Cheers!
