Speaker Config differences

Looking for some wisdom/advice on speaker cabinets.
Looking to change my 1210 300w Trace combo as the weight is now killing me when moving it. Was thinking of going to a head/cabinet arrangement to lighten the load, but was wondering what differences there are between speaker/cabinet configs in terms of tones/sound.
My only other amp as been a Trace BLX 130, so I've only had the single 10 or 4 X 10. What difference would I expect from, say, 1X15 or 2 x 10, or a combination? Playing a Kingbass Artist through it.
Any thoughts gratefully received.
