Series 2 preamp not working right

I recently find my Series 2 pre is lacking the ooomph it used to have.
switching from passive to active used to provide a noticeable bump in level...now even with the tones wound up ALL the way (quite a lot of boost in the lows and highs) the level is LOWER than passive mode!

I suspect that it's only working as a 9v instead of an 18...

does anyone have a link to a wiring diagram? (i used to be able to find this on the Status site but not now)

I want to check the battery wiring.

thanks in advance.

I realize this is an older thread, but I wonder if you had any success tackling this issue as I have the same problem with my bass (a Series 1 classic, I think).

Changing the batteries had no effect on output level. Also, the hum/noise level (relative to signal) is high, remains the same regardless of pickup balance setting and can be killed completely by turning the volume on the bass all the way down. Is there some way I can verify if the onboard preamp is the culprit or if the problem originates from somewhere else in the circuit? Thanks in advance!
