I have an old Matrix Energy (844) recently acquired last summer from basschat, took the schaller bridge off and replaced original back on but noticed the sound wasnt as powerful and bright as my old 91 P/J black matrix so had a peek inside the cavity. i contacted the factory and they advised it is a buffer circuit with a permanent bass boost and tone cut pot. im hoping the BOARD 100 option for the early series will fit with these two hyperactive J pups

was just wondering if anybody had successfully used the BOARD 100 or J-East Retro Jazz boardless option and any thoughts or opinions

I've always thought the East U-Retro would be a good replacement for the three pot energy/matrix preamps. You get a three band EQ and sweepable mid range all from three stacked pots. The power from them is massive too, even with only a 9v supply. I have both J and U-Retros in basses. Great preamps.
