I have the chance of buying one (long story but want one as a travel bass) with a wooden neck.
Has anyone here owned one, I wondered what they sounded like?
Cheers

Depends on whether you want one with humbuckers or single coils. I used to own a Washburn S1000 which had the same single coil J type pickups and the three control preamp. It had a lovely crystal clear tone to it. I would imagine the humbuckers would produce a thicker tone.

The one I've seen has the humbuckers.
I know its a different kettle of fish completely but on the Kingbass MkI with the humbuckers compared to the J types on the MkII I know I definately prefferrd the MkII but I would say they gave more tonal variation including a thicker tone. This is all getting too complex now!

Any more Status Energy experiences?

I've got an Energy as well as a few other Statii. The Energy is amazing value for money imo. Mine has the soap bar pickups and it's a lovely sounding bass. Clean and punchy. But there's a huge variety of tones available if you want to play around. Good Status build quality for a few hundred quid = you can't go wrong!
