Do any of you lads use Status strings on fretless bass?
Just got a nice oid 1980 Aria SB 1000 lined fretless (really nice) it's got roundwounds on it at the minute and there doesn't seem to be any wear, just a few string marks.
I wanted to use something a bit les abrasive and something better for sliding, without loosing the sound of roundwounds.
I see Status do some halfwounds, are they any good?

I had a fretted SB 1000 way back when, it's a great bass.

Yes, Status strings are wonderful for fretless. I had the halfwounds on my fretless Streamline, but found them to be just a tad bright, so switched to the nylon wound, which are perfect for me.

I'd say try them all!

I find it depends on the material on the fingerboard. I use flats on my S2 fretless and for me they are just perfect. I don't like flats on wooden fingerboards though, they just seem too lifeless. The phenolic board on the S2 seems to bring out a lovely sound on flats. Sounds almost like a horn when played up the neck. I use Hot Wires halfwounds on wooden fingerboard fretless, that gives some of the brightness of a roundwound but the smoothness of a flat.
